Sleeping Hot? Here's What's Actually Going On — and What to Do About It.

If you're the person who kicks the covers off at 2am, flips the pillow looking for the cold side, or wakes up with the sheets stuck to you — you're a hot sleeper. And you're definitely not alone. It's one of the most common complaints we hear in the store.

The good news is it's solvable. The bad news is most of the "cooling" marketing out there is rubbish.

Why do some people sleep hotter than others?

Your body drops its temperature naturally as you fall asleep. That's normal. But some people generate more heat, or their mattress traps that heat and radiates it back. Both things contribute, and it's usually a combination of the two.

Memory foam is the worst offender. Pure memory foam mattresses absorb your body heat and hold it right against you. That's why so many people who bought memory foam mattresses online end up in our store a year later looking for something different.

What actually works?

Pocket spring mattresses naturally sleep cooler because air circulates between the springs. If you combine pocket springs with breathable comfort layers — gel-infused foam, natural latex, or the newer phase-change materials — you get a mattress that actively moves heat away from your body instead of holding onto it.

Our Luftstrom ThermoFlow mattress is purpose-built for this. It uses a thermoregulating cover with ventilated pocket springs underneath. Customers who've switched to it from memory foam consistently tell us the difference is massive.

Quick wins if you're not ready for a new mattress

A gel-infused mattress topper can help. We carry them from $129 and they add a cooling layer on top of your existing mattress without replacing the whole thing.

Swap your pillow. If you're sleeping on a solid foam pillow, it's trapping heat around your head and neck all night. A ventilated or shredded pillow will breathe better.

Check your protector. Some cheap mattress protectors are basically plastic sheets — they trap heat and moisture. A breathable waterproof protector lets air through while still keeping your mattress clean.

Come and feel the difference

We have the Luftstrom, our gel toppers, and our full pillow range set up in the showroom at 35 Altin Street. If you're a hot sleeper, come in and lie on a cooling mattress for ten minutes. You'll know straight away whether it's the right move for you.
